Aftercare at Mira Vista

Our free after-school program is run by Bay Area Community Resources, sponsored by the West Contra Costa Unified School District, and paid for through an ASES grant and PTA funds.

This program provides academic and homework support as well as enrichment activities that include art, music, technology, and science exploration.

Students have the opportunity to learn through recreation and a variety of social and critical thinking skills to increase their metacognitive and communicative abilities. For the 2022–23 school year, we will serve students in grades K through 6. If you are interested applications are available in PowerSchool, see: https://www.miravistaschool.com/post/after-school-accepting-applications-for-next-year .

Mafanikio

WCCUSD has a special lens on African American students who have been traditionally underserved. The Mafanikio Program (achievement in Swahili) immerses students in a culture of high academic and behavioral expectations while developing a growth mindset conducive to learning and overcoming challenges. It aims to accelerate academic success by providing support in English Language Arts and Math and provides opportunities for students to participate in field trips and other enrichment activities which develop college and career readiness skills.

Oakland Youth Chorus

From music of the world to Motown, rounds to rock and roll, OYC singers sing it all and share their voices in celebrating the East Bay! Oakland Youth Chorus is a professional, award-winning multicultural music education program connecting singers from over 25 schools and 7 communities each year. Each week in class, OYC singers build vocal and musical skills including melody, rhythm, harmony, and music theory with age appropriate activities in a creative and encouraging environment. Through performance opportunities at OYC concerts and throughout the East Bay at venues like the Oakland Zoo, Chabot Space and Science, or local tours, OYC members make new friends, explore and celebrate different cultures and styles of music, and create harmony in our community.
